Well i picked kendras waterworks : a purification process . I picked this one beacuse it stood out to me . It was something i could see myself wanting to do or figure out if you could really drink contaminated water with purifying it . The question for this artical is "would it be possible to make contaminated water safe to drink using something as universal and inexpensive as the sun's ultraviolet rays and simple plastic bottles ? " I think but i am not sure that her hypothesis is that if there is water there is life and no water , no life . Her method was to test the water samples from the bacteria .If there was coliform bacteria then this would mean that there was human waste. If there was human waste then there would possibly be a disease causing deaths . Her expirement was to take water samples and put them under the light for 2 hours and five hours. She found out that both samples are used as disinfectants and are safe to ingest in controlled amounts . In here conclusion she had alot of questions about the haitians water and would it be safe to drink but she found out that besides bacteria water could have disease in it . The good thing is that if the haitians could use light and food - grade hydrogen peroxide this could purify there water .
I picked the project about lead levels in residential soil in proximity to a superhighway because I thought it was an interesting topic and I didn't know a lot about it. The name of the young scientist who did the project is Max. Max's question is are lead levels in the soil of residential property located close to the LIE elevated when compared to similar properties that are located further from the LIE? His hypothesis is that lead levels in the soil of residential property located close to the LIE will be elevated when compared to similar properties that are located further from the LIE. His method was to collect soil samples from designated sites along the LIE. The sites he used were 0.1 mile, 0.3 mile, 0.5 mile and 1.0 mile from the LIE. Three sets of samples were taken for each site. For his experiment he used the Sensafe Soil Check kit to determine how much lead was in the soil samples. To get a more precise analysis of his samples he went to EMSL Analytical which is a national laboratory. His Final results were that average lead levels obtained from soil on the shoulder of the LIE were 350 mg/kg and were a lot smaller at 0.1 mile to 63 mg/kg. By 0.3 mile the concentration was 31 mg/kg, and at 0.5 mile the level was 18 mg/kg. The levels did not get smaller at 1.0 mile from the LIE, with a lead concentration in the soil of 19 mg/kg. The correlation was greatest within one half mile from the LIE, with a correlation coefficient of -0.68. In his conclusion he said that his project has made him more sensitive to environmental concerns.
1) I picked this project to read about because I like learning about the affects on what humans do to the environment, because I am a human and would want to know what not to do.

I chosed to read about this project because I had never heard of killer algae. The name of the young scientist is Rachel. She wanted to find out if killer algae exsited in her lake, and if it did, why and what could they do to get rid of it. She thought that there was going to bad algae in her lake. For her experiment, she took water samples of the lake to look for the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and chlorophyll present. She found out that there was blue-green algae in her lake. In her conclusion she said that you should pay attention to the water you go in to make sure nothing is toxic or poisonous.
I pick this project to read because I thought that it was the most interesting projects out of all of them. This project was about a boy named Kyle, and how he was studying water pollution in Oklahoma. Kyle's question was: "Did any petroleum products or hydrocarbons were seeping into Claridy Creek behind the Sunray Refinery?" Kyle thinks that the water is contaminated with patroleum products, because when he goes to the lake he describes how he smells the patroleum products in the water. Kyle's method of finding out if patroleum products are in the water, is that he takes samples of the water in cooler jars, and he does some tests in his house, and then he sends some samples to Maine so that way a scientist named Mr. Curlett, could runs some tests on it to see what he can conclude about the water. Kyles results were that he found out the water was contaminated with nitrate nitrogen and phosphorus. In Kyle's conclusion he says how he enjoyed doing the project on water pollution and that next year he will continue research.
I choose the project hurricane that happened in Haiti, hurricane Jeanne. The scientist's name was Kendra. She wanted to know if there's a way to clean bacterial water with the suns UV rays. I picked this project because wanted to see if she could actually do this. Her question was "would it be possible to make contaminated water safe to drink using something as universal and inexpensive as the sun's ultraviolet rays and simple plastic bottles ?" Her hypothesis was that she could probably clean it out a little bit more than it was before. her method was to see how much bacteria and what bacteria was in the water she had gotten. for her experiment she placed all of her bottles outside in the sun at a degrees of 68f. she then studied them every one to three hours. in her conclusion her hypothesis was completely correct but she still had a lot of questions about the Haitians water.
I picked to read about The Impace of a Boiling Water Nuclear Reactor. I picked it because I'm doing something similar with water for my exit project, so I thought it would be interesting to see what project involving water some one else came up with. The Young Naturalist Scientist who did this project is named Anastasia, 16 years old and in grade 10. She collected and analyzed water samples for 11 indicators of water quality. She compared her data to 40 years of historical water-quality data from public databases. She concluded that there has been a decline in the bays water quality. As she traveled around the bay collecting samples, she learned there is a nuclear reactor operating in the Barnegat Estuary. She learned more about the reactor and how it was constructed and became increasingly intrigued about the impact of the reactor on the estuary. Her hypotheses were that the reactor affects the water quality in both the intake and discharge creeks; that the microbial communities in the intake and discharge creeks would be different than the one in the control creek; and that there would be fewer bacteria in the discharge creek. While doing her experiment, she used a EcoPlate to collect her data, and a Horiba U22XD multi-parameter testing device to test them. In her conclusion, she explained about Oyster Creek and how its rector affected the water in its creeks. She was clear that by using her divices, it really helped her and made her experiment sucessful.
